Belfast is home to the UK’s biggest regional hub for media production at Belfast Harbour, which expanded in 2020 in response to record levels of demand for studio space. Recent filming for a Netflix production is estimated to generate £30 million investment into the local area and employ around 500 Northern Irish residents as cast and crew.

In 2018 the value of filming in Northern Ireland was estimated at around £270 million to the economy.

Tourism into Northern Ireland has catapulted with the help of popular TV shows, as people visit to see famous local spots used in shows like Channel 4’s hit comedy Derry Girls. Over 350,000 visitors travelled to Northern Ireland in 2018 to visit Game of Thrones filming locations across the country, boosting the local hospitality sector from County Antrim to County Down.
