Margaret Heffernan makes the case for The Smart Fund in Financial Times piece

5 July 2021

The chair of DACS Margaret Heffernan has written a piece advocating for The Smart Fund in The Financial Times.

In her piece, Heffernan argues that The Smart Fund could be introduced in the UK to catch up with other countries who have similar schemes, and that the fund offers an opportunity for tech companies, government and creative communities to work together, and for artists to be paid fairly to their work.

Margaret Heffernan is an entrepreneur, writer and collector. She has been Chief Executive of five companies and is currently Professor of Practice at University of Bath’s School of Management. She currently sits on the Boards of DACS, the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution, the London Library and FilmBath.

Heffernan says: ‘After the tragedy of the pandemic, it’s time to move on from polarised stand offs and to find ways to make the tech sector a good citizen, involved in the tech community which it both depends on and serves. The Smart Fund offers a transparent, collaborative and sustainable means for government, tech and the creative community to work together, inspiring and strengthening the expressive work of the artists who make the UK world-famous.’
